hello everyone...
after letting go of Apple last October and getting Carissa, thanks to Celene (Candy - Vox), during the first week of November, it has always been next to impossible getting things for Soft Pillow Kisses organized... Jann Paul's very busy with his Racket situated somewhere down Southern Luzon, Me and Dennis on the otherhand was always pre-occupied with work, even Rene had his own little rackets and during the first few weeks of Carissa's being an SPK member, she was in some sort of a "Cinderella" situation making it very difficult for me to properly orient her at how things are done... Buzz Night was a very good choice for her debut gig but our participation wasn't really that sure because of the nature of my work...
i was able to assume that we'll be able to make it only a week and a half prior to Buzz Night but things got a bit bleaker since Jann Paul had to go to the province by the 28th... i had Gilbert (Ex-Pillow Drummer) as the first choice to session but i had a hard time reaching him only to get a chance talking to him the night before the gig... it was a good thing that Jeff (Candy - Drummer) was always helping us out in times that Jann Paul wasn't around and inspite of not being able to really practice, he agreed to play for us and was ble to pull it off quite nicely during gig time...
so on to the gig... well, it was fun... and we even fooled around with Carissa on stage poking fun at how she talks which was a bit similar to how Celene was during her first few Candyaudioline stints... it was a bit funny really... Carissa brought along with her on stage her lyric sheets - full sized coupon bonds, and everytime we moved on to the next song, she had to go through them finding the right sheet for the right song... Dennis even poked fun at her bracelets telling her to shake it ala-maraccas stlye while singing... me and Jeff made audible side comments everytime she spoke on the mic... Rene commented at how pa-cute her voice was... well, it was defenitely her first gig and it was understandable... at least she took it all in stride and was a real sport... reminds me of Apple... so there we were, all seriously poised to play and after Carissa made her first speech we all...
the first song was sort of a disaster really... Rene's Bass was out of tune and there were annoying low rumbling feedbacks coming from the mics which really made it difficult for us to sing... i also forgot to remind Jeff not to do the rim shots since we already ditched that approach... we paused a bit after the first song and let Rene tune his bass while the rest of us fooled around with Carissa... after Rene was done, i decided to introduce the second song and started playing... by this time, everything was starting to sound good... i guess we were back again... we got settled down and was really comfortable with everything and started to play the way we usually do not being concerned that it was Carissa's first gig or that it was not Jann Paul playing but Jeff... there were still quite a few misses during the set but over all it was really good...
just can't wait to have practice and play again...

- Tracks 1, 2, 7, 11, 12 are all from the "Waiting For your Words EP" (Eloha Laurel, Allan Montero, AJ Domingo, Lara Agulto, Gilbert Magat and Dale Marquez) recorded 2002that was suppose to come outt on shelflife but never did...
- Tracks 4 and 9 where from the 2000 ABS CBN Studio recordings (Apple Miranda, Allan Montero, AJ Domingo, Lara Agulto, Gilbert Magat and Dale Marquez)...

Exciting...
hello everyone...
me and Rene waited for almost an hour and a half for our vocalist... i waited a bit longer than Rene since he came in 20 minutes after i arrived...
anyways, while waiting, i got myself pre-occupied with a few things like playing PSP, tinkering a bit my guitar's bridge and most specially, trying very hard not to get annoyed by some showband character loitering around the studio... i don't have anything against showbands but this one hits the level... if i only had my camera with me that very moment...
it was just me, Rene and Carissa... Dennis and Jeff (whose filling in for Jann Paul who won't be available for this month's Buzz Night) had other things to do... the practice went on really well and i think i was able to assess Carissa's improvements... i could safely say that she did improve a lot... we did about 10 songs and most of them she sang quite good... i even tried letting sing alone in some songs... although she has yet to sing the songs the way i intend them to be sung but with the way things are right now - with most of us not being able to be together at the same time in one instance - i think i will just have to do with what she can do... i'm confident that she'll be a better vocalist for us than what i'm expecting her to be... this means a lot of for Soft Pillow Kisses... it'll be less singing for me, a better female vox representation during recordings - if you notice that most of our recording output is 50/50 guy girl vocals... i'm hoping that with her, it'll be a much more girl vocals-dominated song... i won't concern myself anymore with writing songs based on whether she could sing this or not... etc..., etc...
wish we could still practice some more, in a full band set-up just before the 29th in preparation for Buzz Night...

Some Good Mixes
hello anyone?
i've been visiting the studio for quite sometime lately... reviewing old recording of all my bands... as of yet, i think that all of the Aspirin (My First Band) songs, 12 tracks, are almost good and just need a bit more reviewing before i can safely say that it'll be ready for mastering... but this doesn't mean that it'll be released...
i got a bit disappointed at most of the Candyaudioline and Superminty (My Third Band)recordings specially the Candy-ones during the 2006 sessions... the drum
parts really did it for those songs... at least most of the 2007 sessions like "We've Been There", "Cellophane Smiles", "Flaming Walls", "Together", "You're Not There", and "Nearby Town" are close to being good and done... of the 5 songs Superminty did, only 2 songs ("Silly Thing" and the Pale saints cover) are good and will need a few more mixing the rest will just have to be re-recorded...
For Soft Pillow Kisses, there are at least 9 good songs out of 13 from the 2006 sessions and 2 good ones out of 5 from the 2007 sessions... i've been really itching to get these song out already so that we could have another one really soon...
all in all, 11 songs are already in for the "Just Like The Sky" album and here's the list of the titles included:

Post Practice...
hello everyone,
we were able to have practice as a complete unit last Dec. 14, Tuesday... medyo bitin nga lang pero at least, after months of just being a 4-piece and most of the time jamming with members of Candyaudioline eh nakumpleto rin lami sa wakas... sadly, mukang yun na yung first and last time na magkakasama kaming kumpleto for this year... the next few days from now medyo magiging busy na ako so i won't be able to call practice before Christmas... at the same time, Jann Paul will be leaving on the 28th so a different drummer will be playing for us, probably Jeff (Candyaudioline) since i can't seem to reach Gilbert (ex-Pillow)...
i was hoping we could practice some more so that we will be able to execute properly some songs we plan to record sometime very soon but with the way things are right now, i guess it'll have to wait for the meantime...
here's a clip from the last practice we had and this one's the last song we played... i guess Jann Paul was a bit tired by this time which made him play the song slower than how he usually does...

Did You Know That...
hello everyone...
did you know that...
matagal na rin pala akong di nag post dito... my last post was last Nov. 25 pa... anyways... there were times din na i wanted to post stuff pero tinamad ako dahil sa bagal ng connection dito sa bahay...
marami na rin nangyari sa Pillow during the past few Months... wala si Apple, si Ralph nabalitaan naming nasa Gen. Santos na naka-base, si Charles nandito lang sa Manila, si Dennis na ang current guitarist namin kaya hindi na talaga mag-iiba ang tunog ng Pillow sa Candy, si Jann Paul eh abalang abala na sa kanyang mga money earning projects nya, si Rene naman eh umaabot sa level 5 ng Ka-Indiehan ako naman eh as usual eh Loser pa rin... may bago nanaman kaming kanta at may bago na rin kaming Singer, Carrissa ang pangalan nya at Mukha siyang tahimik at mabait... di tulad ng Singer ng Candyaudioline na saksakan ng daldal at ubod pa ng praning... pero mabait yun ha...
lately, nagkaroon ako ng interest ulit sa mga recordings namin and i've made a few trips to the studio to check them out once more... actually pwede na talaga mag labas pero i'm still in the process of choosing the songs... this time around, i've come to a decision to compile most of the recordings Soft Pillow Kisses made... it'll be released as an album ang i'll still be using "Just Like The Sky" as the working Title of the project... hopefully it'll be 15 songs in all... still haven't decided yet whether i'll seek the help of a record label or i'll just self-release it...
it's been years since i've promise to come up with a Soft Pillow Kisses Album and i think it's about time that i've to deliver one... after this hopefully another one will follow..

The Audition...
last night we had someone audition for the vacant vocalist slot... friend cya ni Celene (Candy Vox) mukang okey naman... yun lang, dahil sa late nanaman kami nag start, this time credit it to Rene, and at the same time eh di namin agad masolve-solve yung pag-loloko ng amp eh di namin gaanong nasulit yung practice/audition session last night...
i keep forgetting her name, charisse yata... she has a nice voice pero mukang di pa cya sanay kumanta na medyo malakas yung mga sinasabayan nyang instruments... also she can easily follow instructions from me on how she should be singing our songs... i was hoping she could chalk up 4 songs but she had to leave by 12 midnight and halos 11:15pm na yata kami nakapagstart at naubos lang yung time namin trying to figure out why the volume of my amp keeps fluctuating ( we later learned during Candyaudioline's slot na yung power source pala yung problema)... at least

Actually it means nothing... just wanna pose something since i really don't have anything to post yet... But i was able to write a new song for Pillow but i am still not sure whetehr it's a good song or not... i did 2 new ones for Candyaudioline hope to get it done within the week... also, Soft Pillow Kisses and Candyaudioline were featured in this blog http://shoegazeralive2.blogspot.com... it's a blog dedicated to anything related to Shoegaze... Before... While Waiting... And After...
BEFORE: i had mixed feelings going into the Saguijo thing last night... honestly i really prefered not playing because i wasn't feeling well kaya lang i wanted to be with my bandmates and also Eloha (Ex- Pillow Vocalist) has been pestering me for the past few days wanting to meet up and have a few drinks with her... also, i was looking forward to see some Buzz Night peeps... okey talaga ang Bioflu, 2 lang ayus na... sayang wala si Sir Carl...
anyways... met up with Dennis dito sa bahay and went out at around 10:15pm to fetch Rene... hay yung Taxi sobrang TUFF SPEED... Upon reaching Saguijo, i saw some familiar faces like Guys from Phantom Sizemore, Girls from Dress, Ex- Pillow Marian and many many more... went up to Eloha and asked her if she was up to singing if ever Apple won't make it since i thought the gig would be preceeding much earlier than expected...
WHILE WAITING: me and Eloha wasted no time and had our drinks... in between were the regular kulitans with some friends and short chats with some unfamiar people... weird nga nung atmosphere last night kasi parang weekend eh... at maraming kapansin pansin... the guys from Phantom were like people from a different era because of the way they dressed... Joey Phantom with his long sleeved polo was an instant attraction... kahit ako nainitan sa suot nya eh... Manny Carnival Park whispered a really funny line to me... Kung pwede lang pare... Si Marian gumaganda at lumalaki lalu kahit na pumayat sya at medyo straight na yung hair nya... during the Main Act's set, everyone was inside except me, eloha and Dennis... halfway thru the Main acts set, Apple was still nowhere... this made me uncomfortable since i was not sure whether Eloha still knows the words to most of our songs... AND AFTER... i was still feeling the effects of alcohol after our set... we (me, Apple, Dennis and Rene) all had our mind set at having Andoks as our after gig meal... Eloha wasn't able to join us since she had to go home already... and Jann Paul too... Chritian Carnival also joined us... talked about our opinions on the recently concluded event which we shall just keep to ourselves... medyo hindi sulit yung andoks that time around... makunat yung liempo...
sana nalang sincere si Manny Villar sa pinalabas nya kahapon... Feeling ko there's something fishy about the whole thing...
anyways... met up with Dennis dito sa bahay and went out at around 10:15pm to fetch Rene... hay yung Taxi sobrang TUFF SPEED... Upon reaching Saguijo, i saw some familiar faces like Guys from Phantom Sizemore, Girls from Dress, Ex- Pillow Marian and many many more... went up to Eloha and asked her if she was up to singing if ever Apple won't make it since i thought the gig would be preceeding much earlier than expected...
WHILE WAITING: me and Eloha wasted no time and had our drinks... in between were the regular kulitans with some friends and short chats with some unfamiar people... weird nga nung atmosphere last night kasi parang weekend eh... at maraming kapansin pansin... the guys from Phantom were like people from a different era because of the way they dressed... Joey Phantom with his long sleeved polo was an instant attraction... kahit ako nainitan sa suot nya eh... Manny Carnival Park whispered a really funny line to me... Kung pwede lang pare... Si Marian gumaganda at lumalaki lalu kahit na pumayat sya at medyo straight na yung hair nya... during the Main Act's set, everyone was inside except me, eloha and Dennis... halfway thru the Main acts set, Apple was still nowhere... this made me uncomfortable since i was not sure whether Eloha still knows the words to most of our songs... "Indie Pop Muna Tayo"... Al's Bar...
"good evening, we're soft pillow kisses... indie pop muna tayo" that's one immortally funny line from the seldomly funny lead singer of our band... if you ask me, it was kind of a rock thing Apple had blurted out... natawa talaga kaming lima sa stage and i guess this helped out ease up a bit... we all were obviouly tired except for Rene who as always is the liveliest...
i think we did really well last night, we were so relaxed that we even had the confidence to play a song (cover) that we had just arranged the night before during practice... we weren't even loud that night which was surprisingly enjoyable...

Practice With Apple... And A Gig Tonight at Al's Bar...
for the first time in quite a very long spell, Apple was able to practice with us... it was like almost 3 weeks ago when she expressed her desire to quit the band due to commitment problems but i'm glad she changed her mind and decided to stick it out with us...
last night's practice was in preparation for recording our contribution to Sir Dale's Lucksmiths oompilation... i wish we could've had more time to prepare... we could have made a much more decent take on that song but we had to settle with easier choices... So it's going to be a shoegazy take on the Lucksmiths' "take this lying down"... hopefully we'll be able to record it this friday together with candyaudioline's take on "shipwreck coast" also from the lucksmiths...
that song ("take this lying down") took up most of our rehearsal time and because of this we weren't able to practice songs which we'll do on tonight's gig at Al's Bar... anyways, we know all of our songs and that's enough for us...
hoping for a nicer set tonight...

Dilemnas Galore... Di Pa Pala Tapos...
Di nanaman namin mahagilap si Ralph... Kawawang Dennis, sabit sabit sa Practice kagabi... Apple wasn't able to make it too... i was able to talk to her 2 nights before at mukang problematic sya... hope she could make it tomorrow sa Bandspotting... Si Jann Paul naman medyo wala sa kondisyon at sobrang erratic pumalo kagabi... sana pagod lang since nagkita pa kami kahapon sa Megamall prior to practice... bistado tuloy ako kahapon na may ka-date... todo wa-poise talaga ako kagabi... mukang madami nakakita... pati pinsan ni Maggot nag text pa sa kanya for confirmation... Buking na buking... di ko na uulitin yung ganung klaseng labas... hehehe, at least maganda yung kasama ko... top draw kaya yun sa... Ahh... eh... EEE oh ... uuuu... Si Rene lang yata yung medyo positive ang nangyayari sa buhay lately since paganda ng paganda yung mga t-shirts nya eh... wag ka lang mag suot ng The Smiths na shirt chong... kawawang The Smiths, malamang kung alam lang ni Stephen M. na marami dito sa Pinas ang nasusuot ng t-shirt na may The Smiths design na wala namang alam eh malamang makalimutan na nun magtititili sa mga kanta nya at tuluyan nang mag aral ng Martial Arts yun hanggang sa umabot na sya sa Super Saiyan level 12 kung saan matututunan nyang bumuo ng Power Ball na korteng kamay na nangungurot...

Bandspotting At Sazi's This Tuesday, July 14...
sobrang biglaan lang ito... i was informed just last Friday that i had a slot at Sazy's (formerly Mayrics) for my monthly Bandspotting thing... still waiting for 3 more bands to confirm... so far here are some of the bands that'll play at this month's Bandspotting...

Last Wednesday's Buzz Night...
looking back at last Wednesday's Buzz Night, it seems that everything wasn't really in my favour... Metro Manila was already at signal number 2 the night before which really got me worrying a lot since i was in Palawan at that time and it was beginning to look like we wouldn't be able to make it to Manila on gig day because of the typhoon...
we did made it to Manila on gig date but still the situation worsened a bit because the Storm decided to change course and for a time posted a real threat... forcast of heavy downpour by gig time was all in the news... as early as 4pm, i was being asked by some people whether i'd push thru with the gig or not... many of my expected guest informed me that they won't be going because of the weather... The Shocking Detail wasn't able to make it too... anyway's,there was no heavy downpour and no strong winds, if fact i was a bit hot and there was some sort of a decent turm out of people that night...
Soft Pillow Kisses took stage at around 10:30pm... and since we had Ralph playing again, we sort of ignored our booboos and just enjoyed ripping thru 5 songs, smiling, laughing and just having a good time during our set... Next up was Turbo Goth... it was my first tiime to really watch them... they do have really good tunes and the singer, aside from being a stunning beauty (sana wala nalang syang tatoo), has a really lovely voice... i'm quite annoyed by the way the guitarist performs but he sure does have some pretty decent guitar riffs(gusto ko pa sana lakasan yung guitar nya pero nahihya ako eh)... hope they could still play in future Buzz Gigs... Phantome Sizemore followed... medyo bitin ako sa tunog nila that time still they were able to turn out a really good set... they sound really great and have a really good drummer... i just hope they take the singing parts seriously... next was Candyaduioline... i guess we played a bit lousily... sayang mukang matagal pa kami makakabawi... hope we could find a new Drummer soon... Slumbbok was up next but i wasn't able to watch them since Apple and just a few minutes later, Ecay decided to exit early so i had to accompany both to the Taxi stands... Dress play last and was really good... their third song was really beautiful... and the keyboard player wasn't that annoying anymore... all they have to do now is just keep practicing, specially the drummer so that she would be able to have stamina and be more consistent...
after the gig, me, Dennis, Rene, Christian and the rest of Slumbook went to Timog to eat... as usually enjoy na enjoy talaga kasama yang mga taga Slumbook!!! sayang at wala si Sir Carl..

Welcome Back Ralph!!!
Ralph is back and hopefully for good!!!
after repeated attempts of trying to get in touch with him, i was finally able to catch him during one of his facebook exploits last Sunday... and without thinking, i asked him if he was up to playing a gig ASAP (which was just a while ago) at Sazi's... and he said yes...
During the Sazi's gig, i was having doubts whether we could pull it off since we haven't practiced for almost 2 months together (remember that i had Rene replaced by Sir Carl for almost 3 weeks) but the opportunity of playing as a complete unit was too tempting to let go... so on to the gig... well it came out well but my amp really sucked... no clean tone and the volume level sa so erratic... it made me not use an effects pedal... actually i was using a borrowed guitar which made matters worse for me... although i was able to make adjustments by our second song...
well, everthing went seems well again for us, hopefully for good... now i'm really looking forward to this Wednesday's Buzz Night... That's that for now!!!

Still Out Of Reach
still trying to get in touch with Ralph but i've had no luck with it... although his cell phone's still ringing, i don't get any return calls or text messages from him... this seems like a repeat of what happened when we were still bandmates in Candyaudioline...but this this it's much worse...
well i just hope he's doing fine and has fully recovered from the slipped disc he has incurred... and i am still hoping that he could come back soon and play with us...
i'm having doubts with this new guitarist prospect of ours who's like almost 2 weeks with us and could only manage to come up with only 6 songs all of which were taught to him by Dennis... unlike Ralph who, in a span of only a week was able to play like 10 songs already without the aid of others to teach him...
that's that for now...

Enjoyable Set At Strange Geometry...
yesterday was one of the very few instances wherein i was in a care free mood during a gig... i miss the feeling of not having to worry about anything... it really is fun just being part of the line-up and at the same time being part of the crowd...
it was as if time went by so quickly that inspite of the gig starting out very late, in just less than a dozen eyeblinks, it was our turn to play... but first, i was so mesmerized during The Gentle Isolation's set... ang ganda talaga ng boses ni Ness, the band was tight ang the songs were really good... sobrang sakto pa yung ginagawa ng gitarista sa mga songs pwera lang sa cover nila ng "Elephant Stone" pero kahit paano eh nadala naman ng boses eh... Skies Of Ember followed, i think they sort of mellowed down a bit... andun pa rin yung angst pero parang nabawasan yung tension... great songs pa rin kahit paano and a healthy dose of deliciouly dreamy soundscapes... Filter Filter followed, slightly decent tunes or i maybe i didn't really listened intenly to them... pa labas labas kasi ako nun eh... Then kami na... actually ang daming sabit ni Sir Carl pero okey lang, me, Dennis and Jann Paul tried our best to be steady at all times and i guess me and Apple sang in tune most of the time and i thing for the first time eh we sand the lyrics on most of the songs corrrectly... by the way, that may be the last time we'll be having Dennis session for us... hopefully the next time we play, si Jary na yung mag-gitara sa amin... Dress followes and ako ang naging roadie nila... pinawisan kaya ako ng todo dun... staring out lousily during their first song but looked really good during the rest... they really have good tunes and lovely voices... Last band was Your Imaginary Friends... i only got to see them during their 1st song wherein i tried fixing one of the guitarist's amp... i went out since i was too tired...

as of now, it will still be carl on bass and dennis on guitars... we haven't been able to get in touch with ralph for quite sometime now and this has propted me to look for a replacement... actually meron na pero he isn't ready yet... hopefully sa Buzz Night sa June 24, pwedeng pwede na sya...

About Last Buzz Night...
i feel very sorry for not being able to make it early last time sa Buzz Night... actually, kung nasunod lang yung oras dun sa gig na pinanggalingan ko eh malamang, 10:30pm pa lang nasa Dredd na ako... nakatugotg pa sana yung Candyaudioline... hay mga tao nga naman, mahirap pagkatiwalaan... di ko tuloy inabot ang Kings and Pawns at yung Cactus Garden.. Di ko rin inabot ang Dress at yung Your Imaginary Friends...
anyways, i am happy that Soft Pillow Kisses was able to make it... actaully, pinakiusapan ko lang si Boss Ferdie na payagan na mag extend sa oras at pumayag naman... inabutan ko pa yung Slumbook... tight na tight na sila kaya nga lang eh parang wala sa tono yung guitars nila that night...
natutuwa rin ako sa attendance last time kasi inspite of it being a Sunday eh tinao pa rin ang venue... sana this June ay wala nang hassle...

What's Up? Ralph, Bumalik Ka Na!!!
haven't been posting lately kasi nakakatamad mag check ng kung anu anung personal ek-ke on-line...
anyways, nothing much to tell really... we've been gigging a lot lately, well not a lot pero we've been playing more often than before... the last one was almost a week ago at Saguijo...
dennis is doing well filling in for ralph who's side-lined due to a slipped disc for almost a month now... it was ralph's birthday last monday, may 11... hope you're doing well chong, makabalik ka na sana... iba pa rin talaga ang dating pag tayo-tayo eh...
apple, jann paul and rene naman on the otherhand have been very patient with our situation kaya kahit wala si ralph eh enjoy pa rin, apple's singing has improved by leapd and bounds even without practices kaya lang medyo olats sya ng konti nung saguijo gig kasi pinilit nyang kumanta ng malakas... pero okey lang, di ko rin cya nasabihan to sing in a relaxed manner kahit na maingay, na maingay yung mga instrumento...
also just a week ago, on my trip to bacolod, i was able to meet up with a former pillow bandmate... si sir charles... ayun, wala pa ring pinagbago... hehehe, nakaka-miss din talaga si charles... balik ka na dito at buohin mo naman populardays ulit... ang hirap pag walang ka-chalenge challenge... ang hirap kaya ng number 1 na walang number 2...

Another Biglaang 70's Stint...
Just had an entry about a 70's Bistro stint barely 2 days ago and now comes another one... Actually,dapat Superminty yung tutugtog pero our (Superminty) drummer was down with trankaso... He should've told me earlier... I texted my Minty bandmates at around 4pm of our Call Time... but Minty drummer only advised only after i texted him... pwede naman sana nya ako ininform ng mas maaga peo mukang wala talagang malaskit yung taong yun eh...
anyways... sa sobrang kagustuhan kong tumugtog and since walang kasama yung main band that night (yung singer nila is a bit under the weather din eh), i had to make kulit my Pillow Mates to fill in the gap... i'm glad na pumayag sila... dir rin naman pwede yung Candyaudioline since Candy and Minty share 3members, Me, the Lead Guitarist and The Drummer...
so we were supposed to play just 6 - 7 songs but i got carried away so we ended up playing 9 songs... the first 2 songs was a bit chaotic thanks to Jann Paul who i later learned had just came out of a drinking session... pero okey lang kasi kumpleto kami, mukang masasaya and each one of us obviously wanted to play... we started picking up by the 3rd song and from that point on pogi nanaman kami ulit... gusto ko pa sana dagdagan pero feeling ko pagod na mga band mates ko... i later learned na nabitin din cla... sayang... pero over all, enjoy and the crowd was accomodating as always... ayus din talaga dyan sa 70's, open minded yung crowd... kaya cguro, gustong gusto namin dyan tumugtog lagi...
Apple and Jann Paul had to exit early since mga working peeps cla... Apple was due for work at around 1am while Jann Paul had to be up early... the rest of us stayed to attend and watch the main band play... Dennis of Candyaudioline even jammed with then on a number songs which made us enjoy the whole thing more and more...
ang galing talaga ng main band, although their music isn't really my cup of tea, i can say that they are far better than any other acts here as far as female fronted bands are concerned... no gimmicks whatsoever, just intelligently innocent, catchy tunes ranging from simple to slightly complicated arrangements... they have everything going for them, looks, the voice and tunes etc., etc... Sana sila naman...

Forgettable 70's Stint?
last week we played at 70's Bistro... Medyo napapadalas na ng konti ang pag-play ng Pillow dun kasi feeling namin eh sobrang comfortable kami playing there and at the same time, wala na yung dating guy na nagpapanic pag lumalakas ng konti yung nag bubulungang volumes namin...
Last week's 70's stint was a slightly anticipated one for us, kasi, aside from playing a new song ay medyo nabitin kami with the one we had three days before sa Bar TEN 02...
so then came a few hours before gig time the news that Apple won't be able to make it because biglaang may make-up class sya... Still we decided to push thru... actually i was quite surprised after watching it on video... hindi sya kasing pangit nung iniisip namin lalu na ako...
hehehe, i remember that in the middle of the second song, we did 5 songs yata, i wanted to cut our set short kasi feeling ko talaga eh kahiya hiya na talaga ako pero ang tight namin nung gabing yun instrumentally kaya i decided just to be a bit "kapal mukha" and run through the rest of the songs before shamefully going down the stage...here's a clip, aside from singing lousily, i kept forgetting some lines...
we even came up with a plan on how to deal with gig wherein our main singer would not be able to make it... anyways, we still were happy at how tight we played... hopefully next time such a situation (absent singer) arises, we'll be able to handled it in the most comfortable way we can...

Practice And A New Song...
Finally... after almost 5 months of not having a practice session, we are able to do one about two days ago... Organizing a practice session for this bunch is quite a task really... Everyone's always busy, even Rene for quite some time... There have been a number of occassions that your's truly did became really frustrated at not being able to practice but i can't really do anything about it... each of us has his or her priorties which i try to respect... at least we did play well in all of the gigs that we had for the past few months with out the benefit of rehearsals... maybe its because all of us still share the same passion for group... sadly i can't say the same for my other "active" band which as of late, seems to be falling apart...
anyways, this is Pillow's page so the hell with my dilemna with the other band... practice was quite fun really... we ripped thru, at least 10 old songs and i was impressed and a bit surprised at how tight we were even in some songs which we rarely play live or in practice... realising that i need not refresh them on the old songs, i wasted no time introducing a new one and i was quite happy at how everyone participated in arranging it... It was really fun seeing Rene and Jann Paul spilling their hearts out just to get the right groove flowing... Ralph was really focused and not afraid to try it out although i had to help him a bit but once he had it in his head, he went "auto-pilot"... Apple too picked up the song really quick although admittedly, both of us, specially me, still have a tough time singing them in the proper key...
the new song's called "Like Rainbows Do"... it's about nothing actually and the lyrics still needs lots of reworking, that's why i'm not posting the lyrics yet kasi nakakhiya pa...
anyways, it was really fun... sana maka-practice pa kami ulit para maayos na yung song...

The "Real" Truth About Stars...
Chong don't feel bad about our set last Monday... i don't and won't ever consider it a bad set because di naman tayo buo eh... wala si Jann Paul... If jann Paul was there at talagang nag kalat tayo then it would've been legitimately a bad set pero si Kel yung pumalo so what do you expect di ba?
The good thing about that set was nagkaroon tayo ng reason para magsama-sama nung gabing yun (kahit wala si Jann Paul)... Bihira na nga tayo nagkikita and gigging is one sure shot way of getting all of us together in one spot...
Masaya rin naman kahit paano yung set and we saw how Apple has been steady without tha benefit of Practice... Don't be affected by the way the crowd receives you kasi i don't really beleive in hand claps eh... ako nga pag nasa audience ako, 90% of the time eh nakikipalakpak lang ako...
Ayus lang yang... lets just think of it as some sort on an exercise...

After-Buzz-Kabab-Session... Nymphee-Bud Galit Sa Elitista?
dito ko nalang sa Pillow Blog i-popost ito since 3 (Me, Apple and Rene) is to 1 (Ecay) naman ang ratio ng attendance sa after-gig-eating session na ito eh...
actually dapat sa Candy Blog talaga since si Ecay yung Bida sort of kaya lang tinamaan ng antok sa gitna na maatikabong suyuan na naganap sa labas pa lang ng Freedom Bar...
anyways, wala nang mas hihigit pang nakakapawi ng pagod after ng isang gig kundi ang pag kain sa isang mataong lugar na punung puno ng nag-gagandahang tanawin kasama ang mga kaibigan mo... pag-pasok pa lang namin dun eh nagpuputiang balikat at kilikili na agad ang sumasalubong sa aming mga mata... sayang hindi nga lang kumpleto ang original cast pero masaya pa rin kasi may mga guest stars kami nung gabing iyon... kasama namin si Sir Carl at ang Slumbook... hehehe, medyo wholesome kami ng konti nung gabing iyon kasi nakasentro ang aming atensyon sa bassist ng Slumbook... panalo talaga ang diskarte ng mga kabanda mo para sa iyo... Syempre aliw na aliw kami ni Rene sa kaka-observe... yun lang di ko na rin maalala ang iba pang detalye kasi inagaw ang attensyon ko ng isa pang kaibigan na nakita ko rin sa lugar na yun at nakakwetuhan... di tuloy namin nagawa ni Rene ang basagan ng banda portion...
etong kaibigan na ito ay isa sa mga dating Nymphetz buddies namin... nagbabanda pa rin cya, at he was a bit surprised to learn that we (Pillow, Candy and Buzz Night) were still at it... kung saan saan pa napunta ang usapan namin like kung saan ang mga bagong skin spots at kung anu anu pang kamunduhan... syempre, bilang music lovers eh napunta rin ang usapan namin sa eksena and i was so surprise at how he was so pissed at the "Elitistas"... Biglaang Gig Fronting Parokya At 70's Bistro...
around 4pm na yata yun nung sabihan ako ni Bolong na wala palang kasama ang Parokya that night sa 70's Bistro... since it was 70's Bistro, i didn't want it at first pero naalala ko na wala na pala dun yung isang guy na allergic sa loud volume so i decided na "what the heck... tugtugan na"... so it was a choice between Pillow and Candy, usually i'd go for Candy since madaling hagilapin pero i remembered na may sakit pa si Ecay so nagbakasakali muna ako sa Pillow... nagulat ako dahil instant reply with only Jann Paul hesitating because we haven't had any practice since October pa yata... pero i told Jann Paul na wala na yung kontrabida sa 70's and since kami lang ang front eh madami kaming matutugtog... so there, as early as 5pm we were all raring to go... syempre i had to go home muna from work kasi naka-sporty look ako... dapat pogi kasi Pillow nga... Apple kept bugging me as to what songs we were supposed to do so i texted everyone around 8-9 songs yata... hehehe, walang nag-reklamo...
So Dennis Candy dropped by my place to help me with my gear... around 9pm na kami umalis ng bahay para daanan si Rene sa kanila... Apple was having a hard time recalling the way to 70's so we met her at Kamias cor EDSA... syempre, kina Rene pa lang eh kulitan na until we got to fetch Apple... yung kulit namin, specially me and Apple suddenly disappeared when we caught sight of the unexpectedly large crowd that was present at such early time... Kinabahan si Apple at pati na rin ako... mas kinabahan ako when i got in because ang dami talaga and since it was 70's Bistro which isn't that volume friendly, i felt sure na magkakalat kami... it was almost 10pm na pero Jann Paul was still a long ways to go... nag sound check kami nina Ralph at Rene with Ex-candy Ruel pitching in... hehehe, walang nagrereklamo sa volumes namin so i felt a bit relieved and Relaxed... Jann Paul arrived at around 10:10pm and we wasted no time ang ripped thru about 7 songs... mas madami pa sana yun kung napaaga lang si Jann Paul... pero it was still worth it... needless to say, we pulled it off without the benefit of preparation... ang saya nga eh... we even laughed at some really slight boo boos we made while playing... after our set we went out for fresh air and saw Ecay, pormang lalaki at may tinatagong sama ng loob sa akin for letting someone (Mavi) sing in her place without her knowing, during last Saturday's Club Dredd stint ng Candyaudioline fronting for Moonsatr88 naman... I even saw another Ex-Candy memeber, Cuckooh (vocalist) whom i introduced to Ecay and Apple... a short while pa eh naglabasan na ang mga camera ng mga bandmates ko and ayun... piktyurans galore na... Pictures were taken everywhere... from the doors of 70's to the isaw-isawan by the corner, even while walking along Anonas going to Baliwag Lechon for refreshments... nag mukha kaming mga paparazzi... syempre si Ecay at Apol ang tuwang tuwa sa nagaganap na piktyuran...

Thanks And Good Bye Lazy Chocolate
what a weekend that was for me...
after coming home from almost a Month's stay in Dubai, all i wanted was a long quiet spell and some little time for my own... but i had to personally attend to our visiting friends from Japan which i thought would be too much of a head ache for me since we had trouble conversing with one another... nevertheless, they are such a likable bunch and spending some time with them turned out to be quite gratifying indeed...
at first i got quite annoyed for they didn't inform me that they had already been checked in the hotel which got me, along with Sir Carl, Topei and Ria... all of us were expecting a call from them since 2pm last Jan. 3, Friday confirming that they are already in Traders Hotel... it was almost 5pm when we were able to get in touch with them... Topei and i had really crazy ideas as to why they haven't called us yet during that time ranging from:
- a possible flight delay or worse cancellation...
- they are having a hard time talking to people to get them to the Hotel since they are not that good at conversing in English...
- being arrested for drugs at the airport etc etc...
but the moment we saw each other at the Hotel, everything was good and smooth all the way... except for that trip from Hotel to Ruote 196 wherein my Backbeat Staff, Lorenz, riding a motorbike, in an effort to avoid heavy traffic, went on a different route with our van tagging behind, enabling our Visitors to see the filthy side of the metro... hehehe i guess they didn't really noticed it that much...

i guessed they liked the venue, the food, the crowd, the bands and the event itself... everyone at the venue received them warmly which i guess caught them by surprise... if it's anything that we Pinoys are good at is our Hospitality... if only we could've finished a bit earlier, i wanted to let em have a taste of the typical Candyaudiline / Soft Pillow Kisses after gig eating spree but they were to tired and wanted to take a rest... if it did push thru, Slumbook would've been the Happiest People this side of the globe for sure...
Mike Dorothy Records scheduled a recording for them the next day but since i was too tired i commissioned Gwen, Lorenz and Kuya "Dark Knight" Dadeng to accompany Mike... i slept the whole day out and at around 7:30pm i received a call from Mike that they're done recording and that out Visitors wanted to eat Filipino Food... they ended up at Bario Fiesta in Makati Ave... i got there almost an hour later for i still had to go to church... Wally Balloon Derby was also there... obviously they enjoyed the food which made me quite happy... we even let them have some dinuguan... after eating they told us that they wanted to buy pasalubong but since it was really late we weren't able to do so although we did try out various places like Tiendesitas, Mall Of Asia and even Star City but to no avail... they decided to call it a day instead... on our way back to the hotel some of the guys (Lorenz, Wally and Mike) wanted me to take them to a Sripjoint but since they had a girl with them and us too (Gwen) i saw it close to impossible to do so... the parting of ways was quite awkward really... but they really had to take a rest so after a few Pictures taken, we said our goodbyes to one another... they didn't enter the Hotel until we were way beyond eyesight... they just continued waving which really made our parting quite a sad thing... they were a really nice bunch and everyone of us noticed it... not even an once of the dreaded "i'm in a band syndrome" from these guys...

as for the rest of us, the next stop was Heartbeat Mega Ktv... 2 and a half hours later and after 21 bottles of beer, 4 plate of fried Sharksfin and a dozen of sexy babes parading in their undies, we all decided to call it a day... but not before a quick trip to Marlets for some sisig, liyemposilog and tapsilog...

Buzz Night Na Bukas!!! Sa Route 196 Ito Ha...
If You're not doing anything tomorrow night, daan kayo sa Route 196 kung saan gaganapin ang kauna-unahang Buzz Night sa taong ito ng 2009... Meron tayong bisitang banda galing sa Japan... sila ang Lazy Chocolate, 3 guys and a girl that plays shoegaze flavoured garage pop... kasali rin ang Archaster, isa sa mga pambatong banda sa indie scene nung mga sinauang panahon... joke lang Francis ha... Matagal ko na gusto makasama ang mga ito eh... Also we have Radio Manila whom of which i've yet to see pero since si Sir Carl naman ang nag-recommed eh malamang okey ito...
as usual, nandyan din mga Buzz Night regulars like Lazy Lorelei, Candyaudioline at kami (Soft Pillow Kisses) plus ang bagong bago pero matagal na rin na Slumbook... looking forward to sa funfilled noise infested night FREE OF PIRATES AND BITTER ASSHOLES... (pahapyaw: kung pwede lang manapak talaga pero... kaya lang... di sa lahat ng pagkakataon eh madaling magpasensha...) anyways, kita kita nalang tayo sa Sabado...
