it's been 3 months now since the last time we had Buzz Night... we had Marian then singing for us, Jann Paul playing the drums and Charles on guitars and as far as i remember we played really well... Now it's a totally different line up mostly made up of Candyaudioline members Me, Rene, Kel and Dennis...
Although we have been practicing every once in a while, i honestly feel that we still have a long way to go in capturing the right Soft Pillow Kisses sound that most of the previous line-ups have come to perfect... Gone are the clean and smooth guitar textures of previous Pillow Guitarists, A.J. and Charles... Dennis has yet to perfect this craft since he and me both produce really dirty sounding guitar noises... The drums too will be taking a plunge. The steadiness of Gilbert and Jann Paul is replaced by Kel's often times "playfullness" making him play a some differently... it's either a good or a bad thing depending on how he does it on any given night... Apple, our singer has been really struggling in finding the right voice... there are times that she's on the right grove although every now and then, she seems to miss the mark... but she does have a really lovely voice, a voice that i hope could help keep the integrety of this band intact...
Nevertheless, it doesn't mean that we're taking the plunge... we do have really good songs... songs that still stand out or at least at par with anything good that's been coming out... i've heard a lot of really good local "Indie" bands/acts popping out every now and then and i'm really happy for them, i just hope they don't develop a wrong attitude...
i just learned from a friend that there's this local indie band that has really developed quite an emormous ego... i've heard of them and they do have really good songs... but not the type of songs that could measure up to my standards of what is truly good, although i'm a fan of New Order, Field Mice, The Wake and Countless other really good Post-Punk bands that came out of the 80's... they're only claim to fame is that their songs sound like a mixture of tried and tested "indie" acts most of which i just mentioned a while back and that they know a lot of people in the net and that they have patiently converted these aquaintances into fans... i'm sounding a bit like a sore loser but that's what i've noticed with this whole "indie" thing... it's mostly "Mutual Admiration"... i pity those who are potentially better than us but is outside the so-called circle... good thing there's somelike like my friend who makes sure that not a stone is left un-touched/unturned... if it weren't for him, i would have thought that local indie was only survived by quite a few number of really promising bands like, Populardays, Lazy Lorelei, Outerhope, Wentle Traps, Mintcar, Names Are For Tombstones, Isolation Ward, Tether and Random Knobs... But in truth there are a lot more and i guess some has yet to be discovered...
going back to Soft Pillow Kisses, i'm happy that we are still around... i just hope that inspite of the things that's been happening with us, we'll still be able to keep up with the rest...
